Bit of trouble with speedo sender and custom mounts.

In the stage of making up some mounts in my 120y for the gearbox and engine (L18 and sss stanza 5 speed). Where i want the engine to sit the electronic speedo sender will foul on the original gearbox mounts that are on the trans tunnel. I am wondering what i can do to get around this or what are some alternate speedo options I could use. I have seen on autometer etc speedo senders that you run off the tailshaft etc. What are your thoughts?

why are you running an electronic speedo sender?
maybe get rid of the original gearbox mounts and make ones that the speedo sender doesnt hit, or run a cable speedo

speedo cable will also hit the trans tunnel mounts. was going to run electric speedo as from what i've read they are a lot easier to calibrate down the track as opposed to changing gears etc on the mechanical speedo.

or you could just buy the speedo correction box like i did, and that means you only calibrate the correction box, not the gear box or the speedo.

If you use an S10 Silvia 5-speed for the L-engine, it uses the stock mounts and shifter comes up in the B210 stock location, and the speedo output is in the correct place.

thanks for the replies guys but i think I'm trying to make it work with what i've got, and see how I go from there. the other option is a GPS type speedo. Not sure if they're legal or not though?

There was a photo on the site showing a right angle fitting from a Toyota that Dellow supplied to get around the problem. So maybe a call to Dellow about this part. With the 120Y you could use the speedo cable from something like a 200B for the extra length. I just had a 120Y speedo rebuilt by Advanced Automotive Instruments at Revesby, maybe they could adjust the speedo for you. The only problem with them is they're not open on weekends, weekdays only, & they close at 4 pm. I can also get a 24 volt CD player for the truck & a 100 mm tacho for the racecar through them. Plus he seems like a grouchy old bugger & they're always good value, as they've seen it all & know how to fix it. Just wish he was open Saturdays.

you can get the 90deg fittings easily in imperial fittings but not metric anymore. not sure why- i tired. was cheaper anyway to get a custom cable made $50 with 300mm extra length in it than a 200b cable.
