Yes Clyons8, the add originally asked if 1 is floating around. But I was referring to Orange-1200's reply "I might have one for sale for the right price!! ;)". Well I was under the belief, the more (accurate) information given would Help marc1200 find his box and Help orange-1200 get the right price. Is it a 56 or 60 or 63a ?? rebuild- running or stuffed. This could determine in your mind what a reasonable price could be.A box could be $300 to $1500 depends. Alot of times Ive replied to adds and had no response, but when they leave a number, things just move a bit smoother and quicker. I am not just refering to this add but the adds that have been popping up in general lately.

Lets be honest. Most 1200 owners can't afford a 5 speed box in Australia.

The Morris and speedway boys will always have more money.

Even when I was 21 ..some 17 years ago.. I couldn't afford a 5 speed as is it was 25% the cost of the car.

The cost has now risen to closer to 40% the cost of a car, and it's not like any more 5 speeds have been added to the market.

In 1993 I went CA18DE for my 1200 because it was the same price as going a15 with webers and a 5 speed.

I really doubt there are any a-series 5 speeds 'just lying around' in Australia, and anyone selling them privately will not get the best price.

Thats a valid point dattodude. But if you want a pedigree, you have to pay the price. 25yrs ago when I had a wrecking yard. I use to put the gx stuff and 5-speeds to the side cause it was worth a fortune then. Now after 2 decades, ive recently got back into the 1200 scene. Ive caught up with Basil form headworks who use to build my methanol motors and another chap who wrecks morris's in Moorabbin. And we had this exact conversation. Well 25yrs ago a gtho was 30k now 200k. Well Morris, Cortina's and Datto's Etc have gone up accordingly aswell. I reckon a 5-speed will be worth 3 times as much in another 20yrs. If your passonate you will pay the price, but if its just a fad and the in-thing, you wont. I always knew i'd one day get back into it. Lucky I had foresight and stock piled.
