ratsun_a14 Posted on: 2011/7/23 9:11
its a very frustrating problem, i've put a post about this before, but to my dismay it stillkeeps being a problem. it seems that there is a spark from the ignition lead that comes from the dizzy to the coil it arcs out on the negitive post of the coil. i'm at witts end! it seems to keep happening and i need some help wwith problem,
should i start replacing ignition parts?

Yes, swap the coil and the main lead/wire for another unit. See if it makes a difference. The problem could be elsewhere though.

And do a compression test. If you have a low cylinder, the spark can jump instead of fire the plug.

Have you carefully examined all the leads for corrosion and breaks?

leads are brand new only a couple weeks old, and i only bought a new coil a couple of months ago, never done a compression test, but i'll look into that. i forgot to mention i also run an electric dizzy, would that make the problem worse?

electronic dizzy is no problem.

this is a basic, old-fashioned problem. It will be solved by basic, old-fashioned skills. Do you know any old timers that can assist?

It sounds like you already started doing that and it didn't help. Time to find the cause and fix the cause.

Spark plugs?

Yes, spark plugs could cause this. Remove them and see if anything obvious is wrong.

Last week I checked the plugs on my Ford/Mazda and they were at 0.076 gap -- spec is 0.054!!! Amazing that it was still running good, that usually causes a misfire.
