I was looking at the 1982 brochure and it got me thinking. Of the four trims which would you have chosen?
STD MPG DX SL I would get the MPG model and add some carpet. The 50mpg trumps all else in my book. Standard (2-door Sedan only) •No automatic transmission option •No 5-speed option (4-speed only) •A12A engine •No cigarette lighter •no warning chimes •Plain rear view mirror •Rubber mats •Vinyl upholstery •radio OPTIONAL •console OPTIONAL •highback bucket seats •no Trip Odometer •Single-tone horn •Clear glass •Argent-finish door mirror •6.15 x 13 4-ply blackwall tires (bias, not radial) •Low-maintainence 60AH battery MPG (2-door sedan only) has same features of STD but adds: •Deluxe-type seats (see below) •A14 FU engine •5-speed •175SR13 radial tires •Deluxe-type battery (see below) Deluxe (all body types) •A15 engine •5-speed •Automatic tranmission OPTION •Day/Night rear view mirrors •Full carpeting (except with chamois colored interior) •adjustable front seat headrests •Trip odometer •Dual-tone horn •Tinted glass •Chrome-finish door mirror •155SR13 radial whitewall tires •No-maintainance AH60 battery SL (coupe & wagon only) includes all Deluxe equipment plus: •3-spoke Steering Wheel •AM/FM mono radio standard fitment •Passenger side vanity mirror on sun visor •(Coupe) cargo cover •(Coupe) front seat walk-in device •Console •Split fold-down rear seat •Quartz clock •Tachometer •Glove box light •Cargo/Trunk light •Rear glass wiper/washer •Intermittent wipers •Aero mirrors, dual •Low-profile 175/70R13 tires •Whitewall on wagon •RWL blackwall on Coupe •Sunroof OPTION •Stainless wheel trim rings

Compared to SR (80-series), 70 is quite sporty!

any two door sedan, or any coupe!
in malaysia we don't have tudors, and coupe neither. i love tudor more than coupe though... so i guess, i prefer MPG version.

I'd have to say the MPG, but only because it's 2 door sedan, no other reason. The rest of the reasons are nice to have's..

2-door Deluxe (with A15) was also available. The MPG was basically a stripped-down (lightweight) model with A14.

Wasn't the a14 Fu the crappy round ported head one that was so choked an a12 was a better performer?

The round-port A14 made more HP and more torque than the A12.
But the 1982 FU Engine was an oval port engine. In fact all the 1981-1982 USA engines used the same head. They all used the same camshaft too. You can view topic.
