Strut inserts

The 1200s used the smaller diameter strut tube from the rest of the Datsun model range. From memory its around 45mm compared to the more common 50mm dia. In the past I have used
Toyota Starlet (RWD) inserts and for racing VW Golf Mark 1 Koni gas adjustables. Both inserts are shorter and will need a spacer made to make up the difference in length in the bottom of the tube. If anyones really keen theres a full Nismo 120y front set up on eBay right now starting for $200.00 with gas inserts and everything, brand new it's got to be a bargain.

I too use an insert from a VW. I think its from an 84 Jetta. I picked up the struts used from someone, and they sat around for two years before i realized they were shortened
by about 2in. I would recommend shortening the strut tube if your car is lowered. This way you're not always riding on the bump stops. Angelo

How does one adapt B210 struts to fit in a 1200?
I dont think they will bolt on to the 1200 steering knuckle. Angelo

If you use B310 (US 210) parts, just replace everything, including tie-rods, knuckles, control arms, and T/C rods. Just put the 1200 springs and top on the B210 struts. Isn't that
how we did yours dimlight? y: ang94541 Date: 1/24/02 3:34 pm How does one adapt B210 struts to fit in a 1200? I dont think they will bolt on to the 1200 steering knuckle. Angelo

Sorry, that should say put the 1200 parts on the 210 strut, not B210. ;^)

but the control arms and T/C rods are different than a 1200?
I'm trying to find out if this is a bolt in, or is some fabricating and welding required. Thanks Angelo

The control arms and rods on the 1200 are very tiny and "wee" in comparison to the 210 pieces. If you use ALL of the 210 pieces it's a straight bolt-in. No modification
necessary. However it does seem to push your front wheels out about 1/4-1/2". By: ang94541 Date: 1/24/02 4:01 pm but the control arms and T/C rods are different than a 1200? I'm trying to find out if this is a bolt in, or is some fabricating and welding required. Thanks Angelo

You are correct, sir! That is exactly how we did it on both Gil and George. Incidentally, for those of you who don't know, I usually name my 1200s after the person I
bought them from.

Yep, It does push your front wheels out about 1/2"
but you can make it look "flush" with the rear wheels by using 155-13's in front and 205-13's in the rear. Those are the mag wheels and tires that I'm using on mine. Steve

Ok, I got it. 210 not B210. I just looked in the Haynes manuals for both cars and saw
the difference in suspensions. Why is the 210 suspension preferred? (please help, im not trying to be a dick) Are better strut carts. available? Bushings? Brakes? Etc. Thanks in advance. angelo You can view topic.
