Stock heater switch wiring help
Posted on: 2012/5/20 9:20
Ok so I would like to use the stock heater switch for my electric heater
There are two wires I can't find in my manual A yellow one no tracer and a yellow with red tracer and this has a black spliced wire on it too. These all fit on the 3 heater connection. I plan to run one heater on the first position and 2 on the 2nd. What are the wires there and where to run ground?

ok so if i just run the switch through the yellow wire , then should have on/off no resistor through the stock switch?
how do i get the power into the switch? also id need to ground the black to the body correct? Attach file: getThumb.aspx.jpg (15.90 KB)![]()

The stock heater switch does not have power running through it. It switch earth/ground. The electric fan is always hot, but usually not earthed until the switch is pulled on.
You can do the same for electric heating elements. Wire one side to IGN. The other side not to Earth, but to the heater switch.

Exactly ... (as above)
the LW (bLue / White) gives the positive power and the Yellow's give earth Yellow / Red for resisted (read low) power Yellow for full power

So if I run acc line to heater and then earth to yellow wire that will be full power?
How about if I run the heater through a 4 pin relay? Power in is at pin 30 power out is at 87 86 is switch and the other is to ground???? Would I run ground just to the heater switch and the other pin to power?

ok, so I have run my my LW (Blue/white) back to a fuse that is on at ACC and am running the standard heater/controls so the earth comes thru the yellow or yellow/red..... so to Q1 YES
all that's left in my ute from original Datsun wiring is the heater, park brake and the radio :) - otherwise Silvia all the way Relays .... not sure what you want to accomplish with a relay Attach file: relay.jpg (21.78 KB)![]()

So from that diagram I need to run the power through 85/86 and the earth through 30/87 correct?
Wanted to run the power seperate to the loom as the ceramic draw a bit of current, figured a more powerful source from the battery through a relay would be better than the puny acc blue/white wire used originally. Didn't want to melt the wire if draws too much current. Relays prob not required if the switch is the earth now

Current still flows through the switch ... so the wire is still sized for the current.
use a relay if the device uses a lot of current, more than the 14 gauge wire can handle, or more than the 15A heater fuse will allow.

Relays help to control high power requirements with low voltage power thru 85 and 86 will initiate a connection to allow power from 30 to 87.... There's a couple of websites that help out here
