montanasuby Posted on: 2012/5/26 21:46
I found an original owner 1971 datsun 1200 with 35000 miles on it thats been sitting in a field for 10 years. I was wanting some advice as to if anyone thinks shes worth restoring? Any ideas as to what shes worth? What is a fair offer?
thanks

Very nice spot it looks restorably enough,All chrome seem to be in good nick.

I also Went to see a 1200 sedan that a guy offered me to come check out. it's original 1971 4 door,A12 Motor.

Here in Australia? ... If so then if there's no real structural rust (surface rust is only cosmetic and should not be a deterrent) Then the top price I would pay would be around $500

Other things that would discount that would be if there's things missing or irreparable on the inside

The thing is with these cars it's more about how much you are willing to pay - beauty IS in the eye of the beholder

USA: $200 to $500. The high side only because 1200s are getting fairly rare. The $200 because that's what a wrecking yard will pay. The 1-owner, low-miles part really doesn't matter because of the seemingly poor condition of this car.

By the way, most of the 1200 Coupes (fastbacks) were made in the Suby factory!

Nice find.

He'd get about $100-150 for it as scrap in Aus. I'd offer $100 after telling him that and go from there. I'd go to $500 maybe, if I really wanted it but don't forget, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay.

A bit of elbow grease and it would be worth alot more...

Exterior wise, this looks like a nice find. As it has been sitting in a field for 10 years, peel the floor mats back before you make any offer. If it has Flintstones floorpans, and you haven't much in the way of sheetmetal fabrication skills, leave it. Having a professional to replace floorpans will eat up your "bargain" savings in a heartbeat. If the floorpans are OK, it's still a complete resto you're looking at. Start at $150. If the seller shows any signs of Barrett Jackson syndrome, ("Kid, you got any idea how collectible these things are? I saw one on ebay for $25,000!) walk away. They're cute, they're not too common, but they ain't worth that much as a barn find. (or field find, in this case)
