hey guys, i just got my 1200 coupe back from the body shop and it looks great. now for the hard part, im ready to put the engine back in and i know i have to cut the arms from the original x-member and manufacture new arms. The thing is that i dont know what type of motor mounts to use. Any ideas or help?

You don't HAVE to do it that way, but it's the most common way (modify the crossmember brackets).
Some guys use stock crossmember and make custom engine-side mounts (brackets). Whichever kind of mount you go with, use the SR20 rubber isolators. Although with a stock crossmember, some guys use Ford Escort isolators or even A-series isolators.

Do you mean the rubber isolators? Here's what we use:
![]() SR can alternativly use the same mounts as L-series or Z-series. Here is an SR20 - Datsun 1200 crossmember, stock a-series mounts removed and low profile mounts fabricated for use with L-series rubber isolators: ![]() Datsun 510 isolators: http://www.rockauto.com/info/BeckArnley/BA1040827-1.jpg

The Z-car guys like to use urethane hockey-puck style isolators when swapping in an SR20 (like the Ford Escort pucks). It really doesn't matter which type you use.

The easiest way is to get a pre fabbed cross member from Maddat Link to Maddat Fitting Kits they're really well made and you can just bolt your motor straight in (after modding tunnel of course).
Otherwise check a few of the built blogs as they havwe built awesome engine mounts. Smurf's 4AGE into 1200 Ute is a good example.

so my mission failed this weekend, ran into many problems trying to put the engine in. the way i have it centered and lifted from the cross member interferes with my steering completely. i cant move it back anymore and forward makes it worse. if i go up the angle of the motor mounts is too steep. any tips? pictures? that can have some guidance.

I am not entirely sure of the problem
I put my engine on the ground (actually on some wood) and lowered the car over the top - check my build thread This was way easier than getting the angles. It does seem from the pictures that you may need to remove the exhaust manifold. On my CA18 mine needed 'adjustment' You can view topic.
