I've drafted a drawing to have these cut if anyone else is interested.

Used to cover up where the mechanical water pump goes (A-series) for when you want to use an electric water pump instead. I'll have a definitive price soon, just seeing if anyone is interested or should I just cut one for myself? Cheers.

I wish you'd done this a month ago when I made one with a gasket, drill press, hack saw and angle grinder! Depending on price I might grab one that's a bit neater than mine. Are you getting them done in Aluminium? What thickness? I made mine out of mild steel because that's what I had, Aluminium would be better since that's what the housing's made of. One less site for galvanic corrosion.

I need to check with the cutter to see what they can do economically. I was thinking stainless or mild steel. Problem with mild steel is our favorite R word

lower carbon is better from a rust perspective from what I've heard. Like for Like in contact is better to avoid forming a galvanic cell. Up to you mate.

Yea galvanic action is no good. Like I said, its a little premature, I've got a few laser cutters in Brisane to talk to, some advertise aluminium some don't. A third option could be galvanised steel, but I'm not sure how they treat the raw edges after cutting?

Laser cut the plate, then send to galvinisers

Then when you get it back, redrill the holes because the zinc leaves a thick coat and bolts wouldnt go through, or you can just leave clearence for the gal.

Why would anyone want galvanised? Aluminum is lighter and the same material as the timing cover. Fit like to like.

6mm maybe?

I'd think anything greater than 4mm would be fine, can't be bothered calculating deflection when the difference in material cost will be minor. The gas pipeline standards have stuff about flat flanges in them. 6mm should be pretty sweet.

I reckon someone else here has made one of aluminium, ask them how thick it is, it may be too thick but you know it works.
