INFO Needed on 1200 front Struts

I bought an old SCCA car and need help with the front struts. I measured the tube and its 45mm OD and 419mm long measured from the inside. It appears to be the stock 1200 strut tube, my question is what strut insert can I use. It didn't have an insert, just the piston with oil. Also any help with front spring rates and sway bar sizes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ah, you have the good kind, you can put different weights of oil in it to get differing results.
see Struts for details

"Also any help with front spring rates and sway bar sizes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks" The B-210 sway bar is a nice piece, and gives you 20mm, opposed to the 17mm stocker. Make sure that you use all the hardware off of the B-210. The stock spring rates are only about 90 lbs, so it isn't hard to overstiffen the front. Tech Wiki section has lots of helpful info on sway bars, and spring rates. -Craig

Since it was already a race car it has huge sway bars, 1" front and 7/8" rear. Just thought they might be a bit too big? I was hoping to find an insert, because I wanted to use gas charged units. They stay with you for the whole race. All help is appreciated.

New: Nissan. Not sure if they still sell the gas version or not.
New old stock: Koni or KYB VW Jetta inserts are a favorite to use in the stock 1200 struts. Click Strut Insert Part Numbers for more information.

If your in USA, classic garage stock wet koni kits for the 1200 struts, like yours. I got nos koni inserts for 260z. I'm more than happy.
Different oil weight is how to change the shock rates. 1200rc used 20_50 engine oil to stiffen his up years ago.

I decided to go the VW Jetta strut. Ordered them this morning. Guess I will be making a retaining nut next week. Thanks for all the help on the struts, now if I could just find out about the spring rates.

What matters most about sway bars is the front/rear balance. The ones you have might work well.
For the street, I prefer soft springs and stiff sway bars. The stock 1200 springs are 96 lb/in. But others prefer stiff springs and more body roll.

I found 175lb good on road in a 1200 with a series. Once L series 225 would be good but I got 250lb for great price. good on track but stiff on road all day
