#1 "Popping" at idle
Tidy_1200 Posted on: 2012/9/15 6:25
Hi guys,
my ute has just started "popping" at idle. doesnt make it cut out, just idles and pops. But when u give it a rev it pops out the carby as well...
Now i've used a timing light and set the timing to 5 degrees BTDC and the mixture screw is at 1 1/2 turns from the seated position. Have recently converted to a Petronixs EI kit including the coil, changed the plugs and replaced the fuel pump. and it ran fine for a while after doing all this.
Anyone have any ideas of what to look at next.

Hey mate,''Poping'' sounds like the timing is off.Have you checked the Plugs?Timing should really be 7 degrees.

Tryed crossing the plug wires for a while to try backfireing it.

workshop manual says 5dbtdc, but yeah played around with the timing and doesnt really change it, still pops.
plugs and coil are brand new, both no more than 2 weeks old... might check and make sure coil is getting full voltage...

Luckily have an A15 in the shed which just needs a gasket kit to put together, pulled it apart to inspect it and looks all good...
