#1 Hilux brake upgrade q's
supafatto Posted on: 2012/12/4 13:21
I've got some s12w and s13wb callipers but I'm reading mixed comments about disks and how to set them up!
I was under the under standing that s12w vented style callipers were to be used with 200b/stanza hubs and u12 pintara disks but I've been told that its s12+8 that's use the u12 disks??? I have no idea!
Also buy the looks of the s13wb callipers they seem to have a wider disk area??
What should I do?
I have a few setup that I'd like to try and some pics of the different setup

Top left solid disks with 200b callipers
Top right sumitomo callipers on solid disks
Bottom left s13 disks and ca18 s13 callipers
Bottom right s12w callipers and s13 disks
All the pics are just for setup and help and further info on disks and offsets would Hel heaps

For track car I wouldn't bother with 200b calipers

i cant help with hilux info but for me, the s13 setup although single piston worked really well on the track in my ute.
what are the s12w calipers? they look like twin piston? or are they 4 piston? maybe they'd work better again?

i think choosing vented disks over solids is the more important choice to make for a track car...
your braking performance will vary on caliper choice but no brake setups work well when they get too hot

Tithe s12w callipers are hilux 4spots but I'm unsure of which disks to use as there are mixed comments on disk choice
I have 200b struts fitted to the car ATM so s13 stuff is not an option just yet, I'm having some struts shortened and Coilovers fitted but I'm unsure on what to run until I get the car on the track and test all the setup's and spring rates!
2013 will see my coupe on the track for testing and upgrades as needed and hope to have it all sorted by 2014 for a good year of racing

In the pick the girlocks rotors top left look bigger than the 2 set UPS on the right. Are they all solid disks? Afaik the top right twin piston sumis were on 200b rotors too. And solid.

Your s12w 4 piston calipers are bottom right and should be vented rotor yeah? Cause I have solid rotor hilux ones with rotors same sizes as 200b rotors.

Personally s13 or s12w ftw. Even the hilux weren't enough for bob the builder in solid disks, so the vented hilux should disapate the heat better. S13 has a lot of pad choices too.

Put either of them on if you want to upgrade and make changes later!!!!
If you don't pick a vented 4 spot calliper (ie hilux/r32) and a disk. Then make it work. It's not as simple as bolt up and away you go for any vented disk so save your time and go for the ones that are proven!
Then build the car and drive it! It's that easy

Hilux S12+8 works well with U12 pintara discs (vented). need to redrill disc mounting holes to suit and grind the caliper. can fit inside 13' rims with a little grinding of caliper also
