#1 Davo's 1200 is almost reborn!!
Davo Posted on: 2002/5/31 9:36
Hey all. Guess whos back from the dead!! I finally have acsess to a puder again so i'll be dattoing on the net some more!! Well do i have a 1200 for u guys. Shes almost complete but still quite a few bits and peices to go. For the last 6 months or so i've been rebuilding the rear end. All new springs lowered 2.5", koni shox, all new nothelene bushs and a fat bog warner LSD with skyline disc's and calipers. Got a new 7/8 master cylinder with all new brake lines front and rear. It really pulls up quick. I was suprised the first time i really hit the brakes, i nearly went thru the window!! Enough of the stoping stuff and onto the go stuff. Just bolted back on the head after getting it cleaned up and shaved again. Re-studed the head and bolted the webers and extractors back on. The bottom end is still rock solid and passes the power thru a light fly and a 5 speed sunny box which i had rebuilt. I ran the car for a few days with the LSD in before i blew a head gasket and it was hammering. The gasket blew because of a in-accurate torque wrench. I have since invested in a brand new one and every head bolt is now at 75ft pound. So no more head gaskets!!! The LSD made a huge difference to the cars handling and sideways factor. 2nds are just an absolute blast! And doughnuts are even more fun now!! Now all i have to is get some new spark plugs, new oil filter, new oil, hook up the fuel to the webers, a fuel tank and a handbrake cable. The interior is pretty bare to. It has a crappy dash, 2 old skool recaros and a shifter!! No carpet, sound proofing, rear seat or any plastic bits and peices. Other than that the 1200 rocks! Hope the engineer will be happy when its time to get it regoed, if not, thank god for trade plates!!

Over and out

Good to hear davo cant wait to hear them webber's screaming again. I hope you can make it to the datsun nationals later in the year at oran park. I plan on pulling mine off the road and doing some upgrades and mainataince before heading down to tear the track up :) Im going to tidy up the inside and put it on a bit of a diet with smaller alloy radiator H190 rear end with alloy housing and if $$$ permits a LSD. A bottom end freshen up is on the cards with new rings bearing's and front- rear main seals.
Cheers Andrew

Hey Davo - great to hear you're back with it! I remember you had just got it running the first time at the Dat Cruise day. Andrew have you got any more info about the Datsun Nationals? See John Taylor's A15 Datty 1000 is for sale at the moment - 640 kg's dry with a 240Z CR box - laps Wakefield in 1.06 - wadda weapon.

Andrew - 8k firm. Has two guys flying up from Melbourne this weekend to look at it if it doesn't sell. The well sorted SR20DE 1200 coupe that was winning under 2.0 litre modified was getting around in 1.10's when I was there last. A mid-pack FF gets around in about the same time as the 1000 coupe. Thanks for the National info - I wonder if they accept N10's at such a prestigous event!

Im pretty sure i'll make it for the Oran park race day. I dont know if it will be registered but. Pretty much finished it off today, all i need is a fuel tank and a handbrake now!

Heya Teretonga, after that day i pretty much parked it in the shed and stripped it down again from the fly wheel back. I've taken my time and done it right. I've painted the whole under side white so everything looks clean and new 2.

Andrew, i have a H190 sitting in the boot of the ford that i thought about spending big bucks on but didnt. Its a fair bit lighter than the borg warner LSD which was my only positive for the conversion. Otherwise just far to expensive to fix up to LSD and disc brake spec.
