#1 a15 timing chain allignment
uteboy1200 Posted on: 2013/1/24 4:14
I have just replaced the timing chain on my a15. When i turn the a15 to TDC the crank key is at 12 o'clock. The illustration for Timing Allignment shows the crank key at 4 o'clock. Does the engine have to be at TDC to allign?

The Datsun 1200 factory service manual says to do it like this:

When I set it to this configuration it's not at TDC. The pistons are about halfway up the bore(all 4). If I set it like the image does it matter that it is not TDC?

I am having this exact same issue with My A15, what did you end up sorting out?

Yes, not at TDC.

When you check the chain alignment, do not check it at TDC. Check it as shown in the diagram, with the key aligned with the camshaft centerline.
