#1 Supercharge an A15 engine
jaimecidpedro Posted on: 2002/6/20 6:47
I would like more info in how to supercharge an A15 engine. What kind of performance can I get from such an engine.
Cheers
Jaime

Use a toyota supercharger (4agze i think??) There a 1.6 litre engine so its about the right size. Obviously power would increse over stock but wouldnt bother unless there a little bit of work to the A15. At least a little bit of head work, maybe bigger valves to and keep the bottom end stock. I rekon this will give it a decent amount of power and fun. It wont rev real real hard as the a15's wernt made to rev, but there be plenty of torque. I would love to give it a go, but got other plans for my 1200.

If I can get a decent supercharger I will try it,perhaps like you say, bigger valves and some head work,to see how it runs. I know the A engines are not that reviers, just to have fun and see it work at its best. For true power I would bet on a SR20 or a CA18tt.
Any work will be advertised here. Thanks.
Jaime.

AHA!
Someone else has the same idea as me.
This is what I am going to do!
I already have the supercharger (Because it was only $175) and I was wondering what else I will need to do to get it on my A15. What size carb should I use? I currently have a 32/36 on it.

Sure, improving the engine top end (valves, ports, etc) will help the supercharged engine make more power.

But simply charging a stock engine will also increase the usable power. If the airflow is already near the limit before supercharging, you may not get a lot more peak hp, but certainly can get that HP sooner, meaning a flatter torque curve and faster acceleration. Making sure the charger is driven at the right speed will be important. Spending your money on intercooling/aftercooling might gain more HP (dollar for dollar) than bigger valves, carbs, ports, etc. Anyone know which tradeoff would have the best 'bang for the buck'?

you can supercharge the A15 pretty easliy.
you should get an engine importer to get the supercharger and intercooler off of a jap spec toyota supra. the 4AGZE is a ok super cahrger but because its a positive displacement supercharger you wont get a good noise from the blow off valve.
the supra charger can be fitted easily to a sidedraft weber carb. and the intercooler can be mounted behind the grill with little of no mods i think. you should do a port job on the head and get a 1mm head gasket. other than those and the weber no more mods are needed, andit will smoke the bags easy as.

Wohoo! thats what I thought
About a 40-45 weber do you think?

I just realised today that the supercharger I have is too big. I need the 4AG one. instead of the 1GG one. doh....

The 1GG is what cfwase is talking about, I think. You've done even better than the 4AGZE, lucky bastard!

no no the 1GG one will be fine just fine, fine. its not the size that matters because it will fit in your engine bay, with custom mountings etc. so go hard man. yup a 45 weber will be great. but you could always inject your engine if you have the $$$.
