hey guys, i was driving the other day along the M4 and couldnt handle not having a 5 speed for the high way...
i was wondering what would be needed to convert 4sp to 5sp, is there any gear boxes that can be just bolted up to an A12 with a shorter drive shaft? also keeping in mind that i might go turbo later in the year! thankyou guys kev

The easiest option would be to get an a-series 5-speed from a sunny (?) but these are pretty rare, tend to be way over priced and not real strong.
I got a toyota celica 5-speed and bellhousing from dellow automotive, they have been making them for years and ship them world wide, they are an excellent product. But not real cheap. If you are going to put a turbo on the beast in the future then I would seriously look at up-grading the clutch as the one dellow supplies is only a standard datsun unit modded to suit the toyota spline. I found a nice fat drive shaft (2 door torana)? with the larger style unis at the local wreckers for about $20.00 that fitted perfecly. Sure beats getting a custom unit made up ($600+) Cheers, G

for the price of the 1200 and the toyota (with bell housing ) 5 speed i would have a l-series box modified to fit a-series.

yep, exactly right old-tin.
but if you're sticking with the A series, a 60 series 5spd is fine for most worked NA engines as long as you don't abuse it. Or a patient search for a 63a box would be good for a turbo A series. Having used and dsestroyed both 63 and 2T T50 boxes in different cars, I'd put money on the 63 being far stronger. It was behind more powerful L20 and L18 engines and raced for years before it broke. I busted a T50 with a less powerful 2TG road car that never saw the track. You can view topic.
