Just wondering if there are any significant differences between early and late wiring harnesses.

I'm transplanting late engine, dash into an early sedan. Just need to know which is the easier harness to use.

Visually late model coil position is to firewall. All I can really note without having a complete early to compare.

early is 1970 build. 1971-1973 is changed for RHD worldwide but there is not much difference.

The mid-model ute engine harness has the coil position changed, and the dash harness is changed too, but still not a lot different. The bigger changes came in 1981.

For putting a newer A12 in and a 1978-up ute cluster, I would use the original sedan wiring harnesses.

Thanks very helpful. The ute is an 81. The sedan is a 73.

The biggest difference might be the alternator wiring. What I did was run a short length of new wires from the harness connectors over to the other side where the alternator is on 1974-up engines.

Sounds easy enough, I reckon I can cope with that.
