why not just use a VG30DETT out of a 90+ 300ZX, 300 hp and it keeps it ALL Nissan?
btw, the n/a version is 222 hp.

The 60degrees and sohc should help it fit :)
That's the problem with the VG30DETT..it only just fits in the 300zx engine bay. The vh45 etc are cool nissan V8s but parts are too expensive to keep it going. The Lexus V8 would be ok, they fit nicely in MX5 miatas. I don't need these kind of ideas at this point in my rebuild I'm having enough trouble getting it finished Although the registration hassles make it impossible here in Sydney.Chris

How about a small iorn V8 like a windsor.
You can get alloy heads and a heap of other bits to make em go, check out the 289 windsor in my datsun 1200 sedan, through the section on go the dattos 1200 in the web links you'd be supprised how much room there is in there for a ford V8 in there

The Ford 3.4 V8 might have some advantages over a Ford 5.0/302:
- All aluminum (including block), so should be lighter -- for a roadgoing car this is an advantage for good handling. - Windsor V8s are narrow, but the 60 degree V8 should be even narrower (room for a turbo?) I was thinking about the Rover/Buick alumnimum V8 -- but it's quite heavy for a 3.5 liter engine. The Ford 5.0 weighs only about 450 lbs (about 50 lbs lighter than the lauded GM chevy smallblock), but I haven't seen any alloy blocks for 5.0s.

the VG30DE(tt) came in more than just the Z car. believe it or not, it will fit, I have seen them in 510's and 1200's.
it looks bigger than it really is because the Z32 (300ZX) enging compartment is so small.

Zoom magazine did a conversion a while back of a VG30 into a Chev Corvette. Thoe old 350 V8 was stuffed and the owner dicided to go for a newer motor. They reckoned the 350 V8 was smaller than the V6, this was because the V6 has all the plastic and piping hanging off it.

So, my question is, why stop at a V-8, how 'bout a W-16 in the old lb-110?

is there anywhere you can find out the weight of various motors cause when people say "aluminium whatever" im not really convinced (no offence anyone) that this means its a lot lighter, id just like to see some figures
