Oil Pressure Switch/Pressure Instrument

I have an A14 engine that I am sticking in a project (see photos enclosed). The recipient vehicle has an oil pressure instrument that I would like to keep. Am I correct to understand that the oil pressure sensor on the A14 is a contact diaphragm that connects to an idiot light (not instrument). If I wanted to use an instrument, can someone tell me where the port is on the engine that would allow a pressure tube to connect? Thank you.

Find a pressure switch that threads into same threaded hole. Nice van. Looks like a british delivery van of sorts from 1950's

Thank you. Would I just get a threaded tube that would connect with where the sensor is now and the instrument. That is, the engine would be connected directly to the instrument via the tube. No electronic relay.
Yes, it is a British made van. But it was build for export -- hence LHD

Yes, the Datsun oil port is British Standard Pipe Thread . 1/8" x 28 British Std. Pipe (BSPT Tapered).

Is that a Morris commercial delivery van?

If your engine is like my 1200, the hole is low on the right side of the block. Look for a pipe plug, most would lead to an oil line.

Yes, that's what it is...and early one, and the earliest LHD one. It's called a Morris J-type.

EASY, Just get a brass T fitting in 1/8 bsp. Screw the center of the T into the pressure port on the oil pump where the factory switch now is, then screw the factory switch into one side of the T, and what ever sending unit that goes with the body into the other side of the T. That's how I did mine, and I'm fairly certain that others have done the same.

The problem is that t-fittings sometimes crack. If you don't need the idiot light, simply replace the sender with a line.

I retain "idiot lights" as they are the only thing the driver can notice while busy. To that end, I use big bright ones, common clearance lights are good as they are easy to see and can be written on so you can't miss knowing what just failed. More recently I have found that illuminated game switches are better looking and almost as easy to see. ( one just tosses the microswitch away).
I destroyed two engines that had no lights. there is not time to peer down at a gauge while running hard so I place lights at the top of the dash near the driver's line of sight. As to "t " fittings, I use them as they are so convenient and I like having lights along with gauges. thinks for the warning about them splitting, (guess what I'm going to check tomorrow)..
