Beattie bought a 1200

You may remember me from 7-8 years ago having a little red 1000 wagon. Well I started to move away from dattos and for a long time ive been building 4wds (still work in a 4wd shop) not to mention selling everything I owned to travel NZ with the mrs.
Anyway a few months back a blue 1200 popped up on a facebook page for $800 licensed, running and complete. Just partially stripped for panel and paint. I said to myself if I could sell my current daily ($500 Terios i got over the pits) by that weekend I would buy it. So off I went after selling the terios for $1500 within 24hrs with a car trailer to pick this 1200 sedan up sight unseen. After a bit of a disagreement on what "licensed" ment, the guy payed the rego and I towed it home. It was a little more stripped then I was expecting but nothing I couldnt handle. Panel and paint is a little rushed as I needed it as a daily. It still presents well and as with any datto is a never ending project. Rust wasnt too bad. Corners under the bonnet were pretty bad and cut out a bit of the floor. otherwise just little bits here and there Currently making some coilovers for the front and flipping a spare leaf pack for the back so see how low it will sit. Might have to flare the guards just a little to squeeze the 13x6s in. Dont know what direction to go in with drivetrain too. Run a suckthrough turbo setup on the A12? A14? SR20D with webers and a Dizzy? Im loving the economy and reliability of it though as its my sole transport to and from work 25km away every day. Ive attached a couple pics as i bought it and a couple as it is now

Cheers mick. I got the wheels off a bloke with a red corolla wagon in ballajura doing a sr conversion. Tyres that were on them were stamped 1987... I think one is a different offset though slightly

looks awesome.Great job from how you u got it to where it is now.
if a daily and only transport to work, id leave the stock a12.just maybe electric ignition and headers.if you don't mind increasing abit of fuel consumption then webers.well worth the induction noise. If u wanna build a different combo, do that on the side and once u get setup worked out install maybe friday night and suss out any finishing touches and test over weekend and ready for work monday. I loved the stock a12 when i had my ute haha. The a-series engine sound is just something else...also gives the datsun 1200 alot of its character.but thats just my opinion.

Might have some turbo bits of interest to you if you really want to go that way
And if I can find the box in the shed I put them in

I am leaning towards oldschool atm. Just SUs and exhaust and maybe do up a head on the side ready to swap over. The A12 in it had just been rebuilt before I got it. Seems to have tappet noise even though I adjusted them all to spec. Might go down another .05?
Neil you have a box of everything in your shed dont you?

Just about mate yes
And I'll be selling a heap of it off soon Inc turbo stuff , windage trays , crank scrapers , A14 ,quad injection , and lots of gear I've finally admitted to myself I'll never be using

more lows are now installed. 2" reset leaves and 120y/N10/S13 coilovers. Drives a lot better and nice and low. Wheels are too - a offset without any flares on the front to wind them down any lower.
Also running quad bike carbs I picked up for the right price. They need syncing and still like to over fuel randomly but sound awesome You can view topic.
