Can someone fill me in...

I realise there is an a15 but what are the 1500 engines that look exactly like a15 but thermostat sits horizontally rather than vertically on the head. And the one im looking at has mounts at the front of the engine... Is this from a forklift? Were there earlier e15 engines?

The easiest way to ID the J15 is by the exposed row of headbolts, and the numbers '1500' cast into the block, neither of which the A15 has

Ok I see. There was one out west past toowoomba thought it was too good to be true $375 for a15 and gearbox haha but nope.

Are they comparable with an a15? Are any parts interchangable?

Not comparable. The A15 is lighter, makes more HP, and has more aftermarket parts.
