Chasing a tail shaft to suit a l series long 5 speed it needs to have removable unis

I had a new tailshaft built for my coupe at GIBBS trucks at Labrador $500 late last year.if that helps because no one can rebuild them

Any tailshaft for Datsun 1200 to suit an L-series long 5-speed will be a custom one-off tailshaft.
Except for very old tailshafts (1971 or earlier) Datsun shafts have non-servicable u-joints. Datsun shafts also narrow down at the ends, hence they can't be shortened in the industrial manner. Although machine shops can do it, driveline shops touch them. Which is why most folks have a new shaft built.

Both I've had shortened at tailshaft shops shortened balanced and re did unis.

Yes, how did price compare with a new shaft? Here it's almost the same price.
Just checked, the early 1200 shafts are serviceable, the last of the coupe shafts are not. Of course over the last 40 years they may have been swapped out, so best to double-check them. Stock ute shaft ![]() constant diameter, easy to shorten Stock ute shaft ![]() necks down - harder to shorten

Hey vixen did rick at gibbs do it for you? I been to see him and he's told me what to do i've got the removable uni yoke for the diff side its the gearbox side i need he said thats the cheaper way to do it and he welds it and balances it or if he has to chase it its gonna be an expensive shaft
