#1 Electronic ignition off ebay help needed.
Trav Posted on: 2015/5/18 2:41
I will be installing a 32/36 weber on my A14 this week but have noticed my dizzy does not have a vacuum advance port on it. I am assuming because it had a turbo setup that this wasn't required??? So i thought if i had to install a new dizzy i was best off converting to electronic ignition. It surprises me tbh that it wasnt done when they built the turbo setup. But anyway i was thinking of getting one off ebay http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBay ... m=1&ds=0&t=1431912658874. It says that its ready to run but just wanted to check if anyone else has used these off ebay and whether they really are that simple to install. Also wondering if i also need to upgrade the coil. If so what coil should i use.

Thanks
Trav

Trav you can look up the wiki if you want to use an E series dizzie from an e15 pulsar non turbo then just change the cogs from the A to the E.

Ive also purchased the complete dizzie off ebay when they were around $78 as at the time couldnt find a pulsar dizzie. They work very well and you need to get a cheap coil from any wrecked car if you like, many have the bosch transistor type coil. You can also use Nissan and Ive used a Suzuki coil as well. These are only $10 at wrecking yards.

Trav, your link is not eBay, but something called ebaydesc.com. Their product sounds like those Chinese knock-off distributors.

Sorry here is a better link. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-NIS ... A12-A14-A15-/281311585254 Seems like a reputable seller. Plenty of feedback. Does anyone know what coil i need to buy if i were simply going to Repco to buy a new one? Do i just ask for one for a e15 pulsar? Wreckers around my area aren't the best.

Thanks

You can use the coil that's already on your car. Any electronic ignition distributor will work well with it.

Later on when you go to a self-service wrecker, find a coil from a Nissan with electronic ignition, like a Pulsar E13 or a Navara.

The problems with knock-off distributors:
* Quality? If it runs good right away will it still run good 2 years later?
* If the ignitor burns out, how to get replacement? What kind does it use?
* Is it compatible with a high-energy coil?
* Where to get replacement cap or rotor?

Ok so stupid me should have checked the actual dizzy myself first and not just assumed from what previous owner said. It has an E15 dizzy on it already. Doesn't really help my cause though as i still have no vacuum advance. Ive read that vacuum advance is not needed though if mapped correctly? Does anyone know if this is true if im gonna run a 32/36 weber? If so do i just plug the port in the carby? Anyone with experience with this?

Thanks

Its not needed ever. Does it run well?

Haven't run it without turbo yet. Was running fine with turbo. Could have done with a bit of a tune but otherwise had plenty of go. Waiting for headers to arrive and will hopefully have it running again on the weekend. So you reckon just plug up the port in the weber and give it a go without it?

Thanks
