#1 Track 1200 Ute
Turboute Posted on: 2015/7/29 4:19
Has anyone got any good results out of racing a 1200 ute, compared to coupe sedan etc? Would love something to have some fun in and I have my 1200 ute that has been re sprayed etc so I could use that or do I try and swap for a sedan or coupe?

Ange always had good track results with his 12a powered 1200 ute.

A really good rule I always seem to forget is - Use what you've got. So, use the ute, instead of wasting time looking for another car. I reckon with a sensible power to weight ratio, good tyres & suspension, plus appropriate brakes, it should be just as nimble as a sedan or coupe. Too much power in anything makes for a real 'pants stainer'. So go for a racey A15, a good/ racey L series, or a lightly boosted turbo motor, depending on your leanings. I assume the real reason people have traditionally used sedans or coupes is that utes & wagons were banned above a certain level of racing, but there has always been the odd example.

I agree 100% with b310gx. Use what you've got and have fun :) Don't over-power the thing or waste time/money on a massive build project that most of the time don't get finished - just run it as is for starters and upgrade things as you go.

Nice ute btw. The old Simmons wheels look great on it.

A well sorted ute with a A15 will be a great under 2 litre class vehicle in any club stuff you compete in.

yep go the ute, i had shedloads of fun with mine. suprised a lot of people with it too.

just go with good brakes and the usual 1200 front end mods
run a higher spring rate in the rear without a rear sway bar (my opinion)

keep it simple and have loads of fun

heres an old clip for inspiration
