#1 Relocating Heater Controls
demacoz Posted on: 2015/10/9 22:55
Has anyone managed to relocate their heater controls? ... I am thinking of installing a 2 Din stereo so i need dash room for it.

I could rerig the heater valve with a cable like the choke cable but the 'Room/Vent' controls are the problem

Never heard of anyone doing this. But the good news is that the room/vent controls are cable operated.

Why are you thinking of going double Din. Do you need a DVD screen to watch on your long journeys? Or a GPS unit to find your way back to the farm?

If you want to squeeze one in you might be able to relocate the controls to where the ashtray sits? Just a thought, I haven't done the measurements.

Wanted to have a stereo with bluetooth and handsfree - The old radio cracks and crackles way too much. Besides, they play all that modern junk music these days. Also I think it would look better than a single one that sticks out like dogs b....

I thought I might be able to relocate the controls below or maybe even above like the Datsun1600.

The only snag is the metal rod that shifts the top vent

We just bought a nice stereo with Bluetooth. It's a single DIN ... you can find them without the double-high problem.

If you want stock look put the new stereo in thr glove box. Sounds like you have the relocation worked put if you really wanna do that. My bro put a 1200 heater in his 4wd using the stock controller. I dont remeber a solid rod on the controller... there is two cables and the wires for fan on off as per pic above?

Most of the controls work via cable, but the far right fan control pushes open a flap in the heater box via a mechanical rod.

Maybe you could just leave the rod out? The heater would still have most of its function. Or another option would be to make a custom length rod. I've done this before by using something like an old coat hanger, it's about the same gauge as the stock rod.

Personally I'd go with rallycar's suggestion of in the glove box. Also easier to switch back if you change your mind in the future.
