#1 Ferrari Pistons?!! 77.5 & 78mm
Rallytwit Posted on: 2016/1/5 6:06
Over the holiday I was given an A15 & 5 speed out of USA 210. My current A15 is at 1508cc so for this I thought I would try and get a larger bore. I started hunting pistons between 77 and 79mm.

Well lo and behold at 77.5 and 78mm I found some and not for a car I would have expected. Wiseco makes Ferrari 330 V12 pistons in 77.5 & 78mm, pin height is 29.9 and the pin bore is 18.5mm, cost ranges between $123 and $150 dependent on supplier. (Part # 6501M78) Realistically this is not much cheaper than custom ones I ordered from JE a few years ago.

A quick search of EBay finds some used ones between $65-75 range. I may try to get a cheap stock one just to see what's what.

Interesting find. A15 compression height is 30 mm only 0.1 mm so those are only short. For effective quench of .5 to .75 you could use a common .6 thick gasket.

$75 each used is still less expensive than new Ross or Venolia custom pistons (about $100 each).

Found this photo, if it's the right one it looks like a nice flat-top

That would be it Dave.

On another note I also found Citroen Saxo pistons come in 79mm with a 32.5mm pin height.......A14?

cheaper and higher quality than Italian castings
are Isuzu 4XC1 flat tops which are hard to beat
for a set of 77mm or 1+mm OS versions

Nicer piston design, only problem is those Isuzu 4XC1 pistons are way too short (comp height of 28.5)

using an A14 crank into an A12 block 28.5 is perfect as theres no need to mill A15 pistons but on an taller block A14/A15 will suit block with worn, old rusty or warped decks that need machining.
