I notice the carby's on the wrong way around. Wonder if it was running like that.

I think you are right, it is a Weber 32/36 DVG fitted backwards. The flange below the carburetor looks welded, so maybe the manifold has been permanently modded (not use an adapter plate). Nothing wrong with that, should match up to the stock B110/120Y exhaust manifold
