#1 Tail light help
Avizhome Posted on: 2016/3/2 7:16
Hi guys,
I have got an older model ute with a square tail light connector (Pic attached), however the new tail light that I bought has got a bigger connector :(
Would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.
Kind regards,
Ron

You only need to cut the new connector off, and splice each wire to the old connector

thanks dd,
Helpful as always.
How to tell which one will splice into which one? are they color coded?

* 1971-1978 non-locking Spade connector
* 1978-1986 Locking connector (Pin for JAP, or spade for AUS)

Additional changes
* 1971-1973 Chrome rimmed
* 1973-1978 Chrome with Revised tail & stop (middle) lens
* 1978-1986 Black rimmed
* 1986-1994 3-bulb type (no parking lamp)

If they are genuine Nissan, they are color coded, maybe this? Maybe it varies by year?
* Red - reverse lamp
* G/L - running lamp
* G/R - turn signal
* G/Y - stop lamp
* Black - earth

If they are aftermarket, they could be any color wires, as long as the wires go to the correct terminals in the connector

Best bet is to ID the wires visually before cutting off the connector. Mark them with tape or something
