Can you get longer than standard wheel studs, as I am wanting to fit wheels that i need to bring out a little and I'm not too sure about putting on spacers as the spacer would be huge.

Also I don't think there would be enough thread left on the wheel stud. Has anyone got any ideas on how to help.

it is okay if the wheels stick out (not too much) as long as they arent sticking outside the body cause the cops will get for that so if they stick out a bit just roll (lip) the gaurds out, so the wheels dont stick out side the body.

i had this problem when i got my 14/185/60s on my car

Your sorta on the right track, as I more talking the tyre hitting the strut, not the tyre sticking out is the problem, I'm using flares to fix that prob, it's a prob with the offset I know ny fault but I wanna try to fix it.

Using some different struts, you'll find the tire offset required does differ.

But probably not by the amount you are talking about.

15-20mm ET is the maximum that will fit under a 1200 without flares etc. It sounds like yours are 35ET or maybe 42ET.
ET acronym means "pushed in" in german.
Can you measure yours?? and let us know.

Measure the width and then measure from the back of the rim to the mounting face on the wheel..I'll do the simple maths and tell you what you have. That will give us the numbers to suggest a possible strut solution.

It might be that you do have the wrong wheels and will need to get new ones.

ps. I'm having the same trouble with getting wheels and tires for my car. I'll probably end up with Simmons, because they can manufacture exactly what you need, it takes 6 weeks though.

So what do I need to measure on my rim exactly, I'm going to flare the guards and I have just installed stanza struts (More track :) The width of my rims are 7" Thanks for your help

7 inch wheels! on the front of a 1200...

What diameter wheels are they? When you are talking that wide, then the total diameter must be taken into account, because they might end up hitting the spring perch. When you trial fit them, do the tires hit the strut body or does it hit the spring perch?

Some of the race guys might be able to measure up their front wheels. But if it's a street car, I don't think 7 inch rims will fit. Because of the original tires were so small, the wheel offset required to fit them to a 1200 gets very unusual when you go to 7 inch. It's this unusual offset that makes getting "wheels to fit" very difficult, requiring someone to accurately measure up and fabricate rims especially for you application, thus one of the reasons why Simmons Wheels is still in business.

Anyone here got 7 inch rims on the front of their 1200? I know you can get them to fit on 1600s (510) but not 1200s.

I got 2 friends that have 7" wide rims, one mate hassimmons he picked up at the wreckers in perfect nick for $600, they are 16"x7".
My other mate has got 15"x7", which are the speedy brand, the guy with the simmons had to se a 10mm spacer where are the guy with the speedy wheels didn't.

I've only got the rims at the moment, I am putting 40profile tires on mine (215/40 16)
My wheels are 16x7.

Can I put longer stud bolts on at all?

Wll that's enough evidence for me.

You can use longer wheel studs.
But they may need to be custom made.

The studs will be high tensile steel and could cost a pretty penny. The problem with the front hubs will be that many of the hug designs are such, that the original studs just come out in the step behind the flange. So you can remove them for replacement, but you can't put longer ones in.

Your hubs may be different, and it might work, look at your hubs.

this discussion came up once before and someone said 240z studs are the longest



just on the issue of price, for those that havent though of this sort of thing


if you want to get thread made up or material machined off you should be going to engineering places as apposed to automotive places

e.g. i want to get 240k struts, to do this i need to change the bottom spring perch to the 1200 size ones, a good idea when changing is to thread the strut and screw the perch on so that you have adjustable ride height. i havent checked prices but, if i go to some automotive place they are going to charge me for "putting 1200 spring perches on a 240k strut and for giving my car adjustable ride height" cause thats the overall result, go to an engineering place they will charge you for "putting some thread on a rod"

which sounds cheaper to you?

I'm using stanza struts on my coupe, which has helped by increasing the track. ummmmm if anyone else has an idea on the topic, it would be greatly appreciated.
