#1 I CAN'T DECIDE!!! SR20DET vs KA24DE
NunoTT Posted on: 2016/12/11 18:30
Hello everyone!

Until last night I thought I wanted an SR20DET for my B110, but last night I came accross a KA24DE built by Les Collins Racing, that could rev up to 9,000rpm!! I fell in love by the rpm range and the looks of it, but now I found an SR20 near my city at a GREAT price!

So my question is. Should I get a SR20 (with a turbo!), or should I buil a KA24DE (N/A!)?

I know that if I get an SR I want a turbo on it, but if I get a KA I want it naturaly aspirated.

Thanks for the help!

Here's a link for the KA build:

There's no replacement for displacement. 2.6 liters beats 2.0 liters. 300 hp beats 227 hp

I know that, but I can buy every mount I need to fit the SR20 in the B110. Is there any place where I can buy those parts to fit the KA on the Datsun?

Also, doesn't the turbo make more power the N/A?

Make more power?
* BDKA: 300 hp
* S14 SR20DET: 227 hp, S15 SR20DET: 250 hp

KA is a natural fit already, fits on stock crossmember. The rear gearbox crossmember is the same for KA or SR

Oh! right! The BDKA make more power, but a stock KA makes less power than a stock SR20DET right?

Did not know that! "No mods needed" is a big plus!! The down side is that I can't find a KA in Portugal or on eBay (europe, not US!)

It's a toss up. Many would argue either way. Braging that you have an SR20 in your car sounds cooler then saying you have a KA24DE, which I consider a good workhorse engine. Anything can be Turbo'd and Supercharged. Make a choice.

Order one from Les Collins Racing

KA24DE came in Nissan Navara NP300, but only about 155 hp

KA turbo is 350 hp, or with modified block up to 750 hp. See http://www.ka-t.org

If you go with SR20DET, ensure that it's from a Silvia (S13/S14/S15) as the others don't fit in a 1200

You can get anything to fit into anything. Use your imagination.

do you want pollution gear is the question?

Look at this dude: Tom Wyat III he munched everything in SCCA with a snail and holley!

One truly inspiring Datsun story involves Tom Wyatt III, otherwise known as Turbo Tom. Turbo tom built a rather fast Turbo powered L20b Datsun 510 and entered in the "Walter Mitty" at Road Atlanta one year. The engine developed 275 horsepower at 21 pounds of boost for drag racing, with 250 more like it on the track. It featured at T04 Rotomaster Turbo and 4150 Holley carb set up.

As the story goes, SCCA officials started him out in class with similar style cars, but had to keep moving up in class as he blew the doors off each increasingly powerful group of cars. By the end of the day he was racing with the Corvettes and Cobras. He beat a Porsche 930 on a lap by nine seconds, and a race prepped 427 Cobra by 3 seconds. The race staff didn't know what to do, so they gave him a custom made trophy instead of embarrassing one of the more prestigious classes.

almost ls1 power with 8psi you can just use the head on an L20B block
crappy turbo choice but k24e head setup manifold can be from ebay
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=nissan+ka24e ... b=v37-6_u&iax=1&ia=images
a canadian using the ebay manifold is making over 200kws at 16psi.
Ka24e in SCCA NA tune made 340hp and not allowed 16v but 12v head.

Balance is the key 200-240hp atw with torque at 3-4k rpm is what makes it fun
Tom Wyatt III destroyed everything on the track with that power using old tech!
Also you are talking small wheelbase 3-4 inches less than a 510 so be careful
Pity there arent long guard and bonnet kits swap to a double wishbone 1000 setup
to lengthen the front and wheelbase of a 1200 with a small reverse bonnet scoop
the 1200 would be a Z killer in handling and out on its own in looks.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

ddgonzal thanks for the heads up! The SR I was looking at was not form a Silvia! I'm glad I posted this question before doing busines! I'll contact Les Collins Racing for a price on a KA. I just hope it's cheaper than a Millington Diamond Series 2 engine (Ford Escort engine). 24kŁ for an engine is WAY TOO MUCH for my wallet!!

datsa73 I agree with you! Braging about having an SR is "cooler" than bragin about a KA, but the looks of the BDKA beets ANY SR (in MY opinnion!!)

Thanks once again!!
