#1 Clean or Resurface Exhaust Manifold Flange?
SunnyDaze Posted on: 2017/5/22 12:49
Hi all, how fussy do you need to be with exhaust manifold flanges? Just a light sand or best to have it resurfaced? Mine look ok just a bit surface corrosion.

Get it as neat as you can with what you have, and then get a steel gasket to take up the slack.

Or, on second though, make a gasket out of sealant. It'll never come off though.

It doesn't need to be perfect, the A-series design is not fussy unlike some other manifolds.... just scrape clean. Can lightly sand if you want, but not necessary

The stock gasket type (composite) will hide lot of imperfection

One problem is you separate the exhaust manifold from the intake manifold. If you have done that, wait before tightening the manifold to manifold bolts. Bolt lightly to the engine (so that the flanges are lined up) before tightening them
