#1 DIY EFI
Matt Posted on: 2003/2/4 8:35
I have been considering an attempt at making my own engine management computer, I've found a good site (diy efi) but I also remember someone here talking about using an 8051 processor.

Anyone with ideas?

Cheers

That sounds like an idea i would have come up with a few years back. wouldnt it be great to make your own efi computer. the reality is u can save yourself a heap of trouble by buying a ready made computer. im not talking about a $1000 or so wolf 3D as i am assuming u want this done on the cheap. what u can do is use a delco computer from a camira/88model pulsar Q/commodore. they use a memcal reprogrammable ecu which can be easily removed and reprogrammed. off the top of my head i cant remember how much this is worth, but it should be about $200-400 or there about, which is very inexpensive when talking in terms of cheap EFI setups. Myself and two friends did such a setup on an '87 twin cam corolla. the advantage being that the ecu was so easily modifiable. this was made easier by a close friend who actually worked at Fueltronics here in adelaide, otherwise we would have been lost for sure. if u really are keen, give Fueltronics in Adelaide a call.

was reading bout a jaycar kit that uses the points but only for a small signal, it gives strong signal to sparkies, not 100% sure of concept but go to jaycar's website and check it out for details

Dick Smith does one too. But it isn't compatible with (Can't remember exactly) those coils that aren't round. Those super Spark ones....
I was gonna put one on my car but no compatability with my coil.
I think it is called Dick SMith electronics High Ignition kit or something...

Thanks, but that page doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm leaning toward the EFI 332 project of the megasquirt guys.
