I sold/gave away all my Datsun parts when I moved in 2013. The rest I threw in the tip. Except one thing ... I been carrying around with me for 10 years
Nissan "5M" ECU 5ZE15M NISSAN JA56R40 B98 2311 Hoping it can be reflashed for custom use can't really remember exactly where i got it (it was around the time i had my first stroke at 46 years of age). I vaguely recall it was from the wrecking yard inside an S13 that had the engine removed. Maybe i paid $2 for it. But I see other "5ZE15M" ecus on eBay now for 2002 Nissan SE-R? Perhaps 5M is the ECU series type number, used by many Nissans Dimensions are 160 x 168 x 35 mm

So i just discovered that Nissan calls this the "ECM" (engine control module). It is part number 23710. The full part number is usually(?) listed after the NISSAN, where on this ECM that is blank
it is substantally different than the 1200 ECU which is part number 22604 (engine control unit) and which only controls the carburetor a/f ratio via 18-pin connector This ECM module has what looks like a 116-pin connector. Im thinking it is a modern fuel/spark computer here's the modules on eBay, looks like the same numbers except the last 4-digit number

the cover is oxidized from its time in the wrecking yard, but the inside of the machine is clean. no worries
The case is aluminum with sheet metal top and bottom covers The board is marked A56-001-E09 1

just learned that from 2004 they are required to support J2534 pass-through reprogramming. I think that's OBD-II flashing
Before that Nissan used a custom plug and software Flash images are at https://www.nissan-techinfo.com

interesting ... 2004-up EPA mandated SAE J2534 pass-through reprogramming from model year 2004
Nissan provides the flash files at https://www.nissan-techinfo.com * J2534-1 Re/Programming. The NERS software ($350) supports reprogrammable Engine and Transmission control units from 1999 to 2019 model year vehicles. * J2534-1 pass through device ($39 to $2,700 on Amazon) * The ECU files are $30 from Nissan. Example: B15_02_03MY_QR25_5M/T_NAM_ASCD_W/ONATS * B15 Nissan Sunny/Sentra * 02_03MY model years 2002-2003 * QR25 QR25DE engine * 5M/T 5-speed manual transmission * NAM ?North America? * ASCD Automatic Speed Control Device * W/ONATS without NATS (Nissan Anti-Theft System) Still trying to figure out if mine is the A/T or the M/T ECM. Maybe it doesn't matter -- maybe you can flash a different image to re-program Is there alternative software besides NERS? You can view topic.
