#1 con rod question really need help!!!
actnup Posted on: 2003/3/10 9:47
just had my 1200wked and it lasted bout 3 mounts and a bearing on the con rod spun wore out till the piston started smaking the head, so i took it bak to the recondisioners that built it and they need another crank and con rod sweet, then they ring me up sayin that the conrod i gave them is 5grams to heavy and they cant find one to match,
my question is are there actuly a diffrence in weight diffrence between con rod weather it b a coupe sedan 120y or wot.
help!!! its been 3 weeks since a thrash in me car

Why don't the engine reconditioners just linish/grind 5 grams off it??? It's not rocket science !!!

I just checked my Factory engine manual and it states that rod should not vary in weight by more than 2 grams. If there is a greater variance weight can be removed from the beam, or the big and little ends. 5 Grams is bugger all to remove , I would love to know why they reckon it's too much.

Why not just buy another full set of rods then they should be pretty close to being the same. 5 grams is not that much to linish off.
what caused the faliure to start with??

Unmodified rods are strong enough for a turboed motor, say at 5lbs boost.

How much boost you thinking of running? At some point you'll need trick rods.
