#1 Electronic Dizzy Question
heathbruce Posted on: 2003/3/20 11:05
We have an L18 in a 1200 coupe.
Have just put a series 2 bluebird electronic dizzy on it.
I have been told that I need to swap over the coil to the same that is on the series 2 bluebird.
Can anyone tell me why I need to do this?

Thanks

Bruce

electronic distributors use a 12v coil and points uses a 7 - 6 volt coil

we were able to start it and it seemed to run alright with the existing points coil.

Spark was quite good as well.

Would you generally be able to start it and would it run using the standard points coil?

thanks

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Some electronic distributors use a more-or-less standard coil. If it works, no worries. Others the "high energy ignition" use a special voltage coil.

How did your L18 transplant go? Is this the first one? I remember you were going to do a swap a year or two ago.
