if i want 50% increase in reliable HP over stock by turbocharging and have option of turbocharging a L16 or an A12 in a 1200 which one would u choose?
i DONT mean which will give me more HP, but actually which engine is easier to T in blowthrough setup, and most importantly which is tougher to stand xcess PSI with stock internals? barpk

i would go with the L16 if you can fit it easily bpark. SHort stroke and they even made kits for these. And once you mount the L16, you can always move up to an L20.
The L16 will give you more hp, at less stress, but more options to upgrade, and also 5 speed gear boxes more easily. I know if i didnt have two left hands, i would attempt it.

I would go with the A12:
- the 1200 already comes with an A12 - It's tough - It's light - you'll have more room to fit the turbo & other parts than if you use an L16 You can always fit a B210 4-speed if you need a stronger gearbox

My money is on the A12 cos you can go up to a 15 later on and the A series is easy to work on...........and you cant beat simplicity.......

Thje L16 would be more reliable in the longer term as it has a stronger bearing set than the A series. it will take more abuse in turbo form.
My opinion only.

is it possible to fit L-16 on a B-310 or 210 4sp GB?
is it worth the effort over an A-12 regarding performance gains(if both r turbocharged)? guys with experience tell, how much PSI can these engine take on premium fuel, without knocking, and how tough is L-16 compared to A-12?

barpk, you cannot lose with either one. Both are great engines. Just go with whatever sound good to you. I would agree that the L16 is somewhat stronger, and will deliver more HP (since it is a bigger engine). But if you want to make it easier, use the A12. Forget adapting gearboxes. It's easier and more reliable to use the L-series gearbox with the L-series engine.

What DD says makes good sense. L will make more power but A is easie to fit.
