Hi guys just wondering if anyone here is into turboing diesels?? I have just bougth myself a new work van- tow vehicle its goes ok unloaded but I feel it needs a bit more pull it has a throbbing 2.7ltr diesel 62kw@4200 and 172nm@2400 I would like to triple this but being realistic a 30-50% gain would be nice. Any sugestions??

ive heard injecting lpg into diesels is like noss for petrol engines. not sure how to do it but it would be good.

My father in Law has a Hilux diesel turbo and it goes every bit of 30% harder. It is faster than the petrol and uses heaps less fuel.

Zoom did an article on boosting disels a while back, just similar to petrol motors (boost, intercooler, Exhaust) but the difference is that hey like to run lean. So they recomend setting them up on a dyno to make sure they run good as they dont have injectors, but that wierd ass fuel metering thingy. Just when i thought Hitachis were wierd ass pices of crap.

I read an article somewhere about diesels not liking huge intercoolers and that a bigger one is not as efficent as a smaller one.......is this true......maby someone can clear this up???

Diesels are around 22:1 compression. They respond as well or better to turbos than gasoline engines do. Basically you are only pumping air with the turbo, no fuel, which makes things easier as with an EFI engine. All diesels I believe have fuel injection, but often it is mechanical (the "fuel metering" mentioned previously).

All the big trucks use turbos. Some have compound supercharging.

if you have 5 or more bolts around each cylinder turbo the thing (soap box ) I strongly recomend you take it to a qualified diesel mechanic that is well versed in setting up turbo systems(off soap box) go for it at the verry least it will not smoke as much under acceleration

never seen an engine I didn't want to soup up
