Hey all.
this is a really wierd place to post this thread but it seamed like you guys know what your talking about. I own a 1971 fiat 124 sports (bc) with the 1608cc motor and twin webers. AT the moment im having a bit of trouble with it but thats besides the point. What i want to know is do u guys know what other engines have the same engine mounts? because i wouldnt mind getting a different motor for it, for example a sr20det? Ive asked around a bit and people have been a bit iffy on the subject. im not doing it anytime soon, but it would be good to know for interests sake. Or any other engines that you can recomend? thanx in advance

why dont you stick with Fiat and put the 2ltr out of the 131r in it. I had a 131r a few years back. lovely car with a nice engine but it rusted faster than I could repare it. the 131r motor is very good. its strong and has lots of hot up potential. and it will take Ferrarri pistons!! got to be good. some where theres a pic of the fastest datto, its got a 131r motor in it.
good luck. Quinn

I would be extremely surprised if any engine other than Fiat engines fit the same motor mounts.
However, it would be fairly straightforward to swap a light, reliable Datsun A12 or A14 or A15 in there. Of course the usual fabrication (motor mount plate, transmission mounts, exhaust system, custom driveshaft etc) would be needed. The Fiat engine is a superb engine, so I'd second using another Twin-Cam Fiat engine. On a twist, there is one world-famous Datsun 1200 using a Fiat engine: a great chassis using a great engine.

Mate, don't do it.
Fiat motors are beautifully engineered. My family has had several Fiats for motorkhanas etc. The motors are very strong, reliable and sound fantastic! My little brother is having an 1800 built at the moment for his 125S with all the fruit including Haltec injection. Can't wait to drive it!! Matty

I used to own a Fiat 124 BC too, fitted with the 131R 2l engine, and gbox. It fits fine, the front part of the driveshaft needs to be changed and larger hole for the gearshift. I loved that car, and it was great looking, handled superbly and burnt plenty of late models sports cars.Dattos are great, but the BC is one of the nest looking 70's fours out there! The Fiat twin cam was well ahead in design and is IMO one of the great 4 cyl engine, can make good power and revs like a motorbike.Driving an L-series Datto afterwards was pretty uninspiring :) The 1800 is definitely revier, though the 2l has noticeably more torque. Even a fit standard unit is plenty of fun. I would say keep the Fiat engine for sure, and search for someone knowledgeable to tune /fix the current unit or replace. I agree with Matty, they also sound brilliant

If you're in Brisbane Mal Ditchman knows how to get them running right. PM me if you would like his details.

I think i found out why its not running so well.
I took off the exhust and the carbies last nite and found some kind of metal shards in the 4th cyclinder intake. IT feels pretty beat up in there. So if my engines is fekked, how much SHOULD it cost to rebuild it (if possible) approx. Or i think i might be able to get my hands on a celica 2T engine, gearbox etc... how hard would it be to fit this in, instead of another fiat engine.. or can you suggest a different conversion or something that cheap... thanx

Why not start with a compression test of your Fiat engine? If the compression is good, there is no need to replace the engine. Figure out where the metal pieces came from, that sounds really odd.
