#1 Negative Camber Template
converted Posted on: 2003/10/1 9:50
Would anyone be able to draw me up a template that would enable my Stanza struts to run -4 degrees camber. It is for a 1200 coupe improved production car.
If it also enabled the strut to run variable camber that would be great too. Thanks.

I've looked at the adjustable bearing pltes to see how to copy them, what sort of linear bearing to use how to mount it etc. alot of milling involved i think but buy pretty expensive, if you got access to a machinist at mates rates, the only way or bight the bullet. i'm keen to see some

I have also looked into it. bye the time you bought materials and bearings (expensive) fidled getting them machined ect you would be nearly better off to buy one already done errol sells them for around the $500 mark as does noletch . Errols are camber only adjustment noltech adjust both caster and camber.
You could allways do the cheap and nasty thing and get the struts adjusted (bent) my stanza ones are done that way and give 2.5 degrees neg.
Cheers Andrew

I've always made the control arm adjustable with 5/8" rod ends this works fine but the bearing plate is a nicer way

Thanks Andrew...yeah I was after camber / castor adjustable. I wouls say the most of the $500 big ones are in the cost of the special thrust bearing which takes the load of the strut trying to push through the top of the tower. I like the clamp type effect Noltec has with the whole plate that is adjustable. The other good this is that you dont gain extra height that you have to compensate for by adjusting the spring height on some othe strut top Ive seen

Just rang Noltec the strut tops are $440/pair (discount on top of that for IPRA)not bad considering you get camber and castor...I'll ring Feral and see what he can do them for.

Don`t know where abouts in Aust. you are converted ?
John Taylor at Pedders in Penrith does a camber "correction" (bend) with the struts in the car! He did mine,2 degrees, including a wheel alignment for $100 !!!!!!!!

IPRA also allows you to redrill the x-member for the control arm pivot point within a 45mm radius of original.

Yeah I know John Taylor...Id prefer adjustable though...for $320 for the tops thats not a bad price...also redrilling the x-member will be a great option too. What about If you elongate the hole? Will the attachment stay secure?

Dude I wouldn`t recomend slotting the x-member because there is a tremendous amount of side load ! Have you considered eccentric camber pins ? I`ve asked around and no one seems to make them for a 1200 but if you know anyone with a machine shop, and are willing to make them........?
I`m pretty sure later falcons have these for camber adjustment(not that they`d fit)this would probably give tou a good idea how to make `em.
Like I said before I got my struts bent instead, call it laziness ........zzzzzzz

Anyway hope this helps ?
