go_the_datto Posted on: 2003/10/1 23:10
I am going to do a ca conversion on a corolla for a bloke and I only have a buget of $3500 to spend,
I have been pricing up some things and so far I have come up with
2000 half cut
300 fuel system
150 intercooler
550 exhaust
200 tail shaft
comes to $3200 so far, then there's $300 left for belts hoses and,,, beer?
of corse thats not including labour but he is a pannel beater and is going to paint the my datto in return.

I have 7 weeks to get it done before the car show. wonder what will happen

What about radiator (does S13 fit?), brakes?, $400 for engineers certificate, Tunnel mods, Engine Mounts?, forget the intercooler if budget is the aim, relays and wire, new timing belt ($120), Gearbox and Engine oil/filters $60, Weighbridge costs, New tires after the first drive around the block

I think you have at least another $1000 of unspec'ed expenses. The frontcut will certainly make the job easier. Make sure the frontcut is complete. $2000 is a great price for a frontcut though.

Probably not enough in the budget for your beers, there might be enough for a 6 pack for your mate, for when you tell him he'll need a bit more money.

Ive measured up my s13 radiator and it fits like a glove,
Ive found struts out of a ra60 celica fit with a little modification, and there 10.5" and vented
The tunnel in a corolla is huge so that shouldnt be a prob,
The engine mounts shouldnt be a problem with a grinder and a welder and half a day taking the engine in and out and a bit of measuring,
I cant see the intercooler costing more than $150 for a supera one or something similar. I guess add nother 50 bucks for piping

and I suppose I might have to settle for light ice

The only thing I havent bugeted for is the engineers report

I'm not too familia with the celica models but I know that some celica owners pinch struts out of the same year coronas because you can then use hilux 4-spotters and some larger disc. I have a friend who did this to his corona so if you are interested I'll get more info.

If you need it, I have a spare CA18DET computer. $50 + COD. This is just to help the budget CA conversion become a reality. It's not for sale otherwise.

Thanks heaps Chris, Ill yell out If I need it.
Although I went and had a talk to the guy today and he said I can hear the half cut running before I buy it.
Its got 113000 k's on the clock and looks clean, so I guess thats a good start
