4agze vs Ca18det ???

hmm, the big conversion is drawing nearer, well it's still a fair way away but im wondering which motor to go with
really staying nissan is a novelty but not a must, please dont just tell me to stay nissan what im wondering is what the 4agze weighs and how the technology of the engine compares ultimately id like to take the supercharger off the 4agze and add a turbo, but obviously i can modify the ca18det if i go that way too so what do people think about the two engines?

Both are good, get a quote for rebuilding each of these engines, get a quote for a new clutch and oil filters and look at the aftermarket availability of "hot-up" parts.
Both engines use similar technologies, so it's just a matter of finding out which gets the best "bang for buck". And looking at short to long term maintenance costs. I like to use the most common parts in the "least common" application. This optimises the TCO providing a better ROI. Sorry..I'm infected with Sales Jargon Disease. Chris

The 4AGZE is a cooler looking motor than the CA, but you still need to stay Nissan we will disown you as a turncoat.

How much hp are you after? anything over about 250 on a 4AGZE gets VERY expensive

Both are great engines both got heaps of potential !
check out http://forums.toymods.org.au heaps of info there on the 4AGZE. I know its a long shot but have you thought of other motors ? there are a few good engines from Mazda that *could* fit into the 1200.. eg: BP Turbo - F2 Turbo - FE DOHC all are great engines it just comes down to what you want in the end.

Custom manifolds both sides..If you can't make the manifolds yourself, then it will start getting expensive, the money you'd spend on the manifolds, you'd be able to buy a spare CA18DET.
If you are going to Use a Mazda engine..use a rotary At least then everyone will know that your aim is to be different. It mightn't be easy, but I'd like to see someone do a Mazda K8 (with aftermarket turbo). A tough sounding 6 cylinder would make it interesting. The Eunos 30x or Mazda MX3 came wth this small capacity 6 cylinder. http://www.rs-productions.com/RSP_Mot ... sae-920677/sae-920677.htm A 6 cylinder in a Datto would sound so wrong..that'd it'd be alright ![]()

bp turbo? it only came in 4wd in the familia except for the 100 turbo mx5's built in 2001 in Australia only. They were developed off a kit made by avo in melbourne.
They are strong and would support about 250hp, but id think that a ca18 or 4agze would be better. I've been contemplating a b6 mx5 engine transplant. 1.6lt twin cam and efi would do just nicely, with a kit from avo fro$3400 to turbo andthey make about 120kw at the wheels.... sounds almost too easy You can view topic.
