Turbo sizes and sizing

Has anyone actually done the calculations for the correct size turbo, trims, a/r's, etc for an A12 or 14 or 15??
I've been looking around at some websites and done some of the calculations and tried to plot the info on compressor maps, blah, blah, blah. I think i need a degree in Physics. I've read most of the other posts regarding turbos and I'm wondering who did 'trial and error' and who took an 'educated guess'

if it was me i would put a t25 on it.. they are a punchy turbo even for 1.2 or 1.4 up to a 2lt
i would start of with this turbo and work your way up.. after further engine mods are done
