hey all, This is more of a curiosity rather than a problem.
When my little A12 is cold and i have the choke on, it chugs and misfires (no backfirirng) while its idling. But once it has warmed up and the choke is off it runs as smooth as silk......any suggestions to why?? Carby has just had full rebuild. thanx

i adjust the choke as required, this helps only a little, but it still chugs a bit!

Mine is the same... She can be a real pig when she is cold... but adjust your choke cable and it should (the chugging) come good. As for the miss fire i havent been able to fix that problem either.

Datsun 1200 choke mechanism is a combination of restricting air (same fuel) and increased revs. The restricting air makes the carby work richer.
If your car excessively chugs, then you need to tighten up/bend the connections that speed up the idle. You need more revs at idle and less choke. So have a look at how pulling the choke cable also speeds up the idle, and you should be able to figure out how to change that to resolve the problem. This fixed up my stock 1200 carby just nicely. Cheers, Chris.

interesting, slightly higher revs to co-incide with the richer fuel intake....makes sense, I shall give it a go tomorrow,
