HAs anyone done it in W.A?
is it a big job?
anyone done it over east?
what brake upgrades did you use?
would a hilux diff be okay behind a slightly modified 13B?
what front struts?
and is it true that rotarys are classed as 1.3 litres capacity per rotor by the road transport dept?

any help would be awesome

you bitch. you stole my idea

actually, the 13B rotary's engine capacity is 1308cc - however, due to the powers above, they double that figure to 2616cc.
the biggest NA engine registerable in a 120Y is 2.2L, so you're pushing it with an NA engine - but you'll still need an engineer's certificate. my engineer is great, but he HATES 120Ys, and has told me some seriously wrong stories about them, so i doubt he'd be good for your project.

if you're planning on porting it, do it AFTER you get it reg'd. ported rotors are hell hard to shut up, even something mild like a street extend port.

it is very possible into a 120Y or 1200, but get the auto for the tranny tunnel. your engine may sit a little high with the std sump (like my 1UZ ) however you will need to mod an RX3/808/RX7 crossmember to suit. just bolt it to the chassis rails near the swaybar, and make sure you use a non-crush bolting technique (sliding some tube into the bolt holes and tacking them there). you'll also need a gearbox x-member (i have one for an RX3 rail2rail if you need it) and a diff.

Terry Stacey is the bloke to think of here, send him your diff and he'll make up a jig for it and cut down whatever housing you supply him with for around $450 - but don't ring up Rotomotion for him otherwise that price goes up 5 times the amount. i can put you in contact with him if you like, i'm acquaintances with John Otter who is good mates with him. Call me on 0423972359 on the weekend sometime. be good to catch up. we'll talk porting as well - i've got a killer combo for something like a 120Y.

i don't recommend HiLux diffs at all. the LSDs are poxy and you'll pay as much for one of those as you will a 9inch or a BorgWarner. HiLux's axles are hard to get in anything over 28spline - and the cost goes up accordingly. if you're going a big diff, go the 31splines straight out. the reason i recommend the 9inch is it's a set and forget deal, detroit lockers are readily available and the extra weight also helps traction. however, the borgwarner also has 31spline axles available and detroit lockers, but will cost just as much as a 9inch to fit and not be as strong (even if you do save about 30kgs). there's no better feeling than side-stepping the clutch at 7000rpm and having full confidence nothing will break....

brakes....
front- uh, stanza struts. lowered 43mm. 180SX slotted and vented rotors. Hilux 4spots. bluebird master cyl. 180B booster.
rear - XF falcon discs (or EA) with TRX bluebird calipers on the 9inch. don't do drums. for god's sake.

about he roraty
well my bro attempted a turbo 12a into a 120y coupe. He got it to fit, but he had problems with the steering box bieng in the way nad the driveline angles were really bad.
The used a series one 5 speed manual, which I still have in my shed if you want it. he eventuallly gave to project away and sold everything and bought a 4wd. still though, it use to pull wheel stands on the street. Just put the front tyres just before a speed hump and then dump it and the bottom of the boot used to hit bitumin!! Funny as, but death on wheels. He didnt bother to modify anyting else. just droped the motor in and drove it for about 3 months before ditching it.
It was the driveline angles and the steering box that were the biggest problems in that saga.
