How much should u pay 4 a A15 that has just been rebuilt and not even put back in 2 a car yet. It apparently has 5 hundred dollars pistons in it(does that mean its worked in anyway???)
Im gettin it of a mate an was just interested in wat i should pay.I think the rebuild cost near 800 bucks.
Any info is most welcome!!!

Depends on who assembled the motor. Any clown can throw a motor together, but dont assume it was done right. Ive seen std shells on ground shafts,oil pump pickups blocked solid with rtv, and I even know a brain donor who built a motor without using a torquerench! Unless the guy who built it knew what he was doing a wad of reciepts means squat. Even the pros f*ck it up some times.

nah it wasnt done by anybody dodgy, it was done by the best engine rebuilders in my area. So anybody know a resonable price?????, somebodys gotta have an idea

is it rebuilt or reconditioned?
From my understanding rebuilt means it was taken apart, checked, then reassembled. Mayne with a new set of rings and possibly bearings.

Reconditioned means it had the works done to it. New valve seals, new pistons, rings, bearings, maching work done etc.

The price also depends on warranty length.

If u got a reconditioned A15 with 1 year warranty for less than $700 u should have found yourself a bargain.

Why don'y u ring around and ask other shops they charge????

Rebuilt and reconditioned mean the same thing. Some people and companies these terms to mean what datsik said, others use them the opposite way.

I would pay $200-$300 USD for a used A15 in excellent shape. I wouldn't trust "reconditioned" or "rebuilt" to pay more for it, unless it's a reputable company that is offering a warranty. I usually treat "no warranty" the same as "used" (i.e. buyer beware). I'd like to see at least a compression test of the engine (which can be done even if the engine isn't running) and hopefully an oil pressure test.

How much is it worth? Two question:
- (ask yourself) how much am I willing to pay?
- How much would alternatives cost? How much would a new or rebuilt engine from the Nissan dealer cost? How much would a 'guaranteed' wrecker engine cost?

do you mean that its possible to purchase a new A series engine from a deaker over there DD ?

I mean that your dealer will rebuild your engine for a fee. How much would they charge? You wouldn't want to pay more for an unknown engine than the dealer would charge (core price + rebuild fee).

Since Nissan still manufactures the A14, isn't there is a good chance he could order a new engine if he wanted to?
