TRYING TO I.D WHAT TYPE OF GRIND IS ON A CAM IN AN ENGINE THAT I HAVE AQUIRED. APART FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE ORIGINAL CASTING NUMBER,(H50). I DONT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO FIND ANY OTHER MARKINGS. IS IT USUAL FOR THE MACHINESTS TO MARK THE CAM IN ANY WAY WHEN THEY DO AN AFTER MARKET TYPE GRIND ? I KNOW ITS NOT A STANDARD GRIND SO IM TRYING TO ASSERTAIN THE CORRECT TAPPET SETTINGS TO GET THE ENGINE RUNNING SWEET........ANY CLUES ?????ITS AN A14.

Markings usually stamped on the ends. Tappet clearences should be the same as standard.

THANKS FOR THAT, YOUVE MADE MY DAY. DIDNT THINK TO CHECK OUT THE ENDS, I FEEL LIKE A RIGHT TOSSA. DO THEY HAVE A PREFERENCE AS TO WHAT END THEY STAMP ??? I HOPE ITS THE TIMING CHAIN END, JUST TO MAKE IT MORE ACCESSABLE. ANYHOW ,ONCE IVE DISCOVERED WHAT IVE GOT, MAYBE YOULL BE FAMILAR WITH THE GRIND AND BE ABLE TO EDUCATE ME.........CHEERS

ITall depends on who thecam grinder was. They all use their own markings. Ifyou can find out who the grinder was, they should beableto give you the specs.

Thanks for that, damn your fast, obviously you dont work for tranzrail..... dont think much of my chances trying to find out though, the engine came from Auckland and the guy that sold it to me was oh so helpful......NOT !!!! Any how might just try it out anyway. cheers.

If you cant find ouy who ground your "mystery stick" a cam specailist can anylise it for you for about $20. kelfords do it in chch, but I guess it depends on where you are.
