installed electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator...not starting well and and wont stay running...any idea of wat setting i should be running....is there too much or not enuff fuel getting in...etc....i am dumb...please help....

Depending on what carb you have will dictate what fuel presure you need. If you have a hitachi, watch the float bowl window, and see if it is staying full. Hold it at say 4000 rpms and check to see if its still keeping fuel up to it. If the presure is too high it will flood your engine. I had mine so high once that at idle it was running rich, and when I opened the throttle it stalled . Then when I tried to restart it , the motor hydraulic locked!

Keep the fuel pump as low and as close to the tank as possible, if you are running a carb you won't need any more than 8 PSI pressure.

I am puting on a weber 32/36 (holley 180) carb soon and I have the existing fuel pump (mechanical) - can I get away with this setup or if I do need a elec fuel pump what are the brands/models to get?

Your profile says you're running twin 40's. I've got twin Dellorto 40's on mine with electric fuel pump, regulator, and pressure guage, and I have my pressure right around 3 psi, slightly under. Hopefully you have a fuel pressure guage, it is crucial running this setup! Weber/Dellorto's aren't recommended to go any higher than 4 psi, with 5 psi as the max. Make sure you have excellent electrical connections (sanded off ground and power connections) and are using thick power wires. Also, make sure the fuel pump is as low as possible, preferably below the tank. If it isn't mounted low, the fuel will not gravity feed to the pump, making it almost impossible to prime the pump and get it pushing fuel. Try priming the pump by sucking on the fuel line, but watch out for fuel when it does come out!!! I have my electric fuel pump located just under where the stock fuel filter mounts on the right side of the car in the engine bay with no problems. Mine fired right up and ran great, even better with more tuning of the fuel pressure. Good luck!

AFRacer is right. Im running twin 40s and a holly red top and regulator the holly is self-priming so it doesnt matter where it sits. I have set the regulator at 3psi at idle and it creeps up to about 4 1/2psi (i think, ill have to check) and it runs fine. what fuel lines are you running? the standard are way to small and you'll need to replace them.

i have a similar regulator, maybe even the a holly i think.. run about the same psi

but i run stock lines and i havent had a problem at all, i still run the mech fuel pump and there is no wurries either

what size are the stock lines, and what size are you running?

the internal size of my braided will fit over the external old pipe but i cant rember the numbers. im running braided all the way and I have changed the pick up so its the same size. you might not feel it but your probably leaning off at the top end. I could notice it on the track so I changed it and its good enough to run any engine Ill ever put in it (unless i go injected then ill have to change the pump)
