theres SUs, which were made in the 30s, these were crap and where "SUs" get there bad reputation, but the datsun versions are actually hitachis which are a copy of the basic design of the SU's and hence are called SUs, but actually they are not SUs

confused yet???

but anyway the datsun versions are a great carby, most people turn up there nose at the mention of SU's but this is due to the early versions, which true to what people say were crap

Hi

Genuine SU's are definatly not crap, some models are better than others but i wouldnt go as far as saying they are crap.

Hitachi (SU type) do work better than some SU models. (on datsuns)

I asked a heap of questoions about this recently and I will be putting some twin hitachi SUs on my 1000. I will put up a pm to ya on their realibility once installed if ya lke. Everyone here says they are great carbs and almost maitaince free. The biggest hurdle it seems is the initial tuning, but nce set correctly are all good.

Exactly.

I haven't touched mine in a long time, and they work great.

Dude

I am surp[rised that you have to drive a car to beat a bug! haha They work best as boat anchors. Fill em with cement and throw some chains thru the windows, and viola one customized boat anchor.
Sorry thats a cheap shot, but im not a fan of Veeewees

I drive a 1200GX datsun.
They came out with the Hitachi flaptop Su's.
Go on the internet and search for information on tuning these carbs.
They are great.
Tune them right and then you can just keep them clean on the outside.
I haven't touched mine in a long time.
Just make sure that everything is in good condition before fitting them.

I drive a volkswagen aswell as my datsun.
You cannot break a volkswagen.
Many have tried here where I live to break a 1.8 litre 8 valve volkswagen engine and also the 2litre 8 valve engine.
These are the best volkswagen has ever build.
There is only two cars I will drive in my live and that is Nissan and Volkswagen.
