hey guys I'm having some trouble with my 180 holley on my 1200 ute it's very unpredictable but every now and then it just dies off and runs rough as sh** it will rev when i first give it a squirt but if i hold the throttle on it just dies off it is an old carbie but i have put new seat needle gaskets etc and it was running fine up untill a few weeks ago i have had it off and cleaned it out and everything in there seems to be fine does this sound like it could be water in the fuel as someone told me this is what it could be if so does anyone know how to check for this and if i can solve the problem without draining the tank, Cheers, Nathan

Try replacing your fuel filter. It's cheap, easy enough to do, & you probably should heve done it at the last service.

As the filter becomes blocked over time, or with some water, it allows less & less fuel through. This can degenerate to the point where there is enough fuel flow to maintain light throttle work, but once you give it the suds, the flow through the carb jets is more than the filter can supply.

Result? The carb runs out of fuel. You then close the throttle & roll to the side of the road. Meanwhile, the reduced flow to the carb fills up the bowl again & the engine runs.
Change the filter first & see if that fixes it.

The metho is supposed to be good, but if the water has reached the filter, it's gurked.
