Just recieved my quote to have my A15 rebuilt to a much stronger engine let me know how this sounds.
Full rebuild and bore, forged pistons, all new rings, bearings.Complete head rebuild, stage 2 cam. all gaskets even a coat of paint on the block.
All this $1200
Let me know what you guys think of this price or recommend any other engine builders.

sounds pretty resonable, rebuilding can end up a bit time consuming,
it's costing me $175 just to get a valve regrind done on my CA18 head,

Cheers

hell yeah! that's a great price!
i got quoted $2200 for my L24 bottom end, and that was just using hyper-eutectic pistons and linished everything!

what a bargain....NOT.

I think something is wrong, that sounds way to cheap.
I had my std 1200 motor rebuilt from an old engine bloke who I have dealt with for many years cost to me was 500 bucks,
He did rings only (it had a std bore) big end bearings, head fully reco'd and a complete gskt kit.
His labour alone should have been over 500 dollars.
Personally I would check the quote and make sure you are getting everything you expect
Ade

The forged pistons are not cheap, so this is a good price, but i suspect that it might be for parts only. The labour just might be the extra bit.
Check first, because forged pistons are also heavier & the engine would need to be balanced as well, & nobody does that for free.

$1200 for a full rebuild !!!! the forged pistons should be nearly that for a good set. I would expect around the $3000 for a well built A series with the good reliable gear in it. Its been a while since Ive built one. Mine used to cost around the $5-600 for a freshen up rings bearings head service ect.
If your after a tough A series I can recomend Jeff Taylor JTS Perfomance Stmary's. From stock to fuill race he knows his A series

Well, if he is a reputable tradesman, & offers a warranty that worth something, & is including forged pistons [& presumably a balance job] for that kind of money, you gotta go for it, as i don't think i could buy all the parts [including forged pistons] for a full recondition for that much money.

I never did find out just what the term "rebiuld" actually encompasses. Can anybody help out here.

P.S. Any tradesman thats worthy of the title should get $50 or more per hour [retail] & a full recondition is not done in an afternoon, so this looks to be SUPER VALUE.
